What a Seller Needs to Understand About Agents Discounting Commissions
This came across my desk yesterday and I thought it was too good not to pass on. The following exerpt was in a Letter to the Editor of MoneySense Magazine from a Dean Brunston in Ottawa, ON.
"Asking for a discount is a great tool for weeding out weak agents. The real estate industry is laden with inferior agents who will cut their commissions to win a listing. Unfortunately, the loser is usually the seller. Think about it: if an agent, representing you, is willing to give up one or two percentage points of his commission, is that agent going to be able to negotiate the best possible price for you the seller?"
If you're about to put your home on the market, it's a good point to keep in mind when you are interviewing agents. Listen to how well they sell themselves and their services, it should offer a solid insight into how well they will be able to sell your home.
