Bauline is small community located northeast of St. John's. The original inhabitants built their homes on small winding lanes close to the shoreline. These days, with no available land around the harbour new homes are located along the road leading into the community.
This year (2014) the council approved two, small subdivisions. One of which will offer custom log homes.
With only 400 residents Bauline is a tight knit, well-organized community. They maintain an active Bauline Community Facebook Page. Community activities include dances, pub nights, Tot TRime Play Group, participation in Tidy Towns, spring clean-ups and parades and celebrations. Originally people living in Bauline fished for a living, these days, while there is still an active fishery, most residents commute to St. John’s for work. The new Torbay Bypass Road has made the daily commute much easier and has encouraged additional real estate development in the area.
