Northeast of St. John's, Flatrock is only 12 kilometers from the city and borders Torbay. The new Bypass Road provides easy access to major shopping districts, the city, the highway, and St. John's International Airport.
A town of about 1500 people, Flatrock is named for the waterfront rock formations which were ideal places for early inhabitants to dry salt cod. While the original settlers built homes around the harbour, these days newer developments extend inland.
