Downtown St. John's Real Estate

Downtown St. John's is the historic core, the central business district and, some would say, the very heart of St. John's: shops, boutiques, galleries, coffee shops, English-style pubs, historical buildings and the sounding of ship horns through the salty air! Downtown is the nightlife, entertainment and arts destination within the city. Famous George Street contains 23 bars. Water Street and Duckworth Street are home to boutiques, and niche restaurants with international flavors. Murray Premises is a National Historic site.  Mary Brown Centre provides world-class hockey, basketball and big-name concerts. And, really, there is so much more. Several websites well worth a visit include: Downtown St. John's,  Bannerman Park Foundation, and Resource Centre for the Arts.

Homes in downtown St. John's are a much-desired prize. And why not? They're smack dab in the center of a vibrant art, restaurant, and shopping scene. The area invites walking. When choosing downtown real estate, you will want to evaluate your need for off-street parking. A good number of the homes downtown have only on-street parking. This may be a serious inconvenience for some, and more so during the winter months when there on parking bans to support snow-clearing efforts. Many areas of downtown will require a parking permit.

The French school board, Conseil Scolaire Francophone, operates École de Grands-Vents (K-6) and Ecole Rocher-du-Nord (7 - 12) which services St. John's and surrounding communities.
